The Leadership Contest.

I believe the GP needs diversity. Not just the diversity of gender, sexual orientation, skin colour or ethnicity. The GP has a proud record on all these types of diversity already. But I feel the diversity we often overlook and need to encourage is a true diversity of ideas.

The challenges our nation faces are complex, interlocking and have no easy answers. If we really want to ask people to vote for us to lead this nation, then we have to show them that we understand how to do it. They need to know we understand how to run an economy, how to deal with complex international relations, understand trade and international law and, most importantly, know HOW to achieve the the things we believe in.

I fervently hope these things will be discussed at our leadership contest. What we feel moved to ask our leaders, what ideas and issues they chose to put before us, tell us and those looking at us, what our party most cares about, what we know most about.

I nominated two people for the leadership, Shahrar Ali and Leslie Rowe, and fully support Andrew Cooper for deputy. I believe all these people have something valuable to say and contribute. I believe just having each of them in the contest already makes us a stronger party.

I believe we desperately need a greater diversity of ideas within the leadership.
